Non-destructive testing (NDT) is the group of techniques used to test materials, components, structures, etc. without causing damage to the item under test.
AIC Inspection Services is able to provide all traditional methods of NDT as well as some advanced methods.

Magnetic Particle Testing
Magnetic particle testing (MT or MPI) is used to detect surface and near-surface cracks in ferromagnetic materials such as steel. Colour contrast and fluorescent methods are available.
Typically used to inspect;
- Newly fabricated & in service fillet & butt welds
- Bolts, pins and shafts
- Mechanical components

Ultrasonic Testing
Ultrasonic testing (UT) uses high frequency sound waves to detect internal (and external) flaws as well as to measure thickness.
Typically used to inspect; - Newly fabricated & in service welds - Bolts, pins and shafts - Casting and forgings
- Thickness measurement & corrosion scanning

Eddy Current Testing
Eddy current testing (ET) uses electromagnetic and is often used to detect surface and near-surface cracks in both ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic materials.
It has many other uses including,
- Testing welds
- Coating thickness measurements
- Tube testing
- Conductivity measurement

Penetrant Testing
Penetrant testing (PT) is used to detect surface breaking discontinuities in any non-porous material. It is often used on non-ferromagnetic materials where magnetic particle testing is not able to be used.
Typically used to inspect; - Stainless & aluminium welds - Bolts, pins and shafts - Casting and forgings

Radiographic Testing
Radiographic testing (RT) typically uses x-rays or gamma rays to detect internal defects in any material, it can also be used for thickness measurement.
